ONE PHASE
IDEA COMPETITION

The urban development concept envisages linking the Bieber Waldhof district more closely with the landscape to the north. At the same time, the landscape area should be preserved as far as possible and should stay easy to experience. Based on the existing settlement structure, a compact and at the same time permeable development of three neighbourhoods is proposed. Their layout and orientation mediate between the edge of the settlement and the landscape. The positioning and cutting of the urban quarters avoids a continuous boundary of settlement. In the process, landscape elements worthy of protection such as the Seggenried or the Kiefernhain are taken into account and will be qualified.

Between the neighborhoods ´landscape corridors‘ are inserted, which stage the adjacent landscape. The existing green space along Seligenstädter Straße and Waldhof will be further developed as a ´green hem‘. It forms a green meeting point and serves as a prelude to the landscape.

The three neighborhoods are compact and vary in size and character. Their form takes up existing relationships between paths and space. A specific mix of different residential typologies is planned for each neighbourhood. Depending on the building site, rows of flats, terraced houses and point buildings are grouped into building groups or around open courtyards. Building projects and special forms of housing each include ´community courtyard‘.
