Over the past few years, the city of Hof has gradually modernized its inner-city urban spaces. The aim is to make the city center perceptible as a coherent spatial sequence, thereby improving orientation and quality of stay.

In this context, the urban space around the Oberer Torplatz has a special significance. As an important fulcrum, it will in future connect the old town and the new town more closely together. At the same time, the connection to Saaleaue, which is adjacent to the east, should also be given greater prominence from here.

Including the already used design tools and material combinations the following design elements are proposed:

  • Unify: A uniform surface holds the surfaces at the transition between Alt- and Neustadt together.
  • Keep free: The space between the two inner-city axes and the Saaleaue deliberately remains as open as possible.
  • Picking up the room suites: The placement of lighting masts, furnishing and residence takes up existing rooms.
  • Observing and lingering: Three important fulcrums are each emphasized as special locations.
