The parallel streets ‚Am Markplatz‘ and ‚Steingasse‘ serve as places to stay and are important components of Pleystein‘s inner-city development system. As representative public spaces, they belong to the first addresses of the town. On the other hand, they differ from each other in their urban location and morphology:

1. The market square forms the urban centre of the old town. The square allows for intensive and diverse uses. As the central link between the parish church and the town hall, it should be made more attractive.

2. The narrower Steingasse is less frequented. To revitalise it, it is proposed to open up the historic town stream and to cut the street profile generously. The two interventions serve as an impetus and model for upgrading the old town.

The design takes these differences into account. At the same time, however, a series of design settings are intended to emphasise the coherence of the two street spaces:

  • Unify: A uniform pavement unifies the surfaces of the street spaces. A high-quality, versatile and barrier-free street profile is proposed for this purpose.
  • Openness: The space remains deliberately open for different uses.
  • Spatial alignments: Lighting columns, furnishings and fixtures all make reference to the context.
