Cheltenhampark is located on the eastern edge of the historic city centre. As part of the historic ramparts, it forms the prelude to an inner-city green ring that can be expanded in the future. Its urban location, popularity and internal organisation lead to a high frequency of use and crossing of the areas. The following interventions are proposed:

  • A clear structure of park strips and parking spaces organises the movement spaces of pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, the entrance areas are more spatially defined and accentuated.
  • More qualified meadow areas, a wide range of recreational areas and extended play and exercise facilities are deliberately aimed at different user groups.
  • The park integrates measures for dealing with the demands of climate change, urban climate and ecology. As far as possible, they are linked to a range of uses that illustrate these new park functions.
  • Historical traces are a natural part of the park as fragments and, in places, as references to older periods.
