The new riverside park frames the Elbe floodplain. At the same time, it is part of an overarching protected landscape space. Accordingly, all interventions are subordinate to the respective context. They pick up on existing elements and develop them further.

The riverside park consists of an intensively used and an extensive part, which are bound together by a restrained open space framework. It consists of the mule track and the riverside paths. The mule track is deliberately set back from the path of the Elbaue walk. It accompanies the existing wooded fringe and emphasises the course of the Speckebach. In contrast, the areas near the banks are made accessible by a network of paths along the banks. In places, islands for resting are inserted.

The allotment garden park takes up the existing framework of gardens and paths. The southern pathway connects to the circular path of the ramparts. The eastern end is formed by the participatory area as an extension of the museum‘s educational programme in the outdoor space.
