The Molkereiplatz is located in the center of Hamminkeln. Surrounded by public uses, retail and gastronomy, it is one of the city‘s central places. The square connects the protestant church in the north with the town hall in the east and is bordered by the Markt-, Molkerei- and Raiffeisenstraße. Traffic and parking spaces currently impair the quality of staying and meeting as well as the orientation in the area.

The design aims at increasing the quality of the square and improving the usability of the square spaces. Furthermore, the accessibility of the street profiles is facilitated and the parking space situation is reorganized. By increasing the amount of green space, a contribution to the improvement of the urban climate is also done.

The square areas are understood as part of an open space sequence between the church and the town hall. Square areas and paths form a spatial unit with the square layout. The aim is to reclaim a versatile urban area for pedestrians and cyclists.

The sequence of squares is composed of three sections, each has its own characteristics and possibilities of use. They are connected to each other by passages. The Molkereistraße will be integrated into the sequence of squares.
