Gelsenkirchen‘s Nordsternpark is located in a structure of different landscape and settlement areas. As part of the IGA 2027, the park‘s island location between the Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal is to be brought to life.

It is also planned to improve the accessibility of the park areas. In addition, the individual subspaces of the park will be more strongly staged in the future. The interplay between anthropogenic and ruderal elements is to be respected.

In the future, the park area will be made accessible by a superordinate path system. It consists of three types of paths: the mobility axis as the main path, the Emscherweg, and crossings in between. The paths differ in their guidance, width and materiality.

Mobility axis, Emscherweg and crossings divide the park into a sequence of different subspaces. In doing so, the existing characteristics of each area are taken up. From east to west, a gradual transition from urban-designed areas to natural areas is planned.
