Bonn‘s urban structure is oriented towards the riverbank area via numerous cross-relationships. Accordingly, the banks of the Rhine take up an important position in the urban fabric. In addition, a sequence of representative buildings emphasises the riverbank as a representative place. The Rhine promenade is appreciated by tourists and residents as a recreational space.

The design envisages emphasising the riverbank arch as a generous urban space. The arch thus forms a framework for a sequence of subspaces, each with different moods and uses. The sections each take up certain characteristics of the adjacent urban spaces. Accordingly, a varied sequence of spaces is created along the riverbank arch.

Taking into account the different traffic requirements, a zoning of the Uferbogen is proposed. In future, pedestrians are to be given higher priority. Accordingly, a decreasing speed of movement is planned towards the water side.

To this end, it is proposed to divide the riverbank zone into two parallel bands of movement and use:

  • The urban band encloses - in the transition to the development - the movement areas for bicycle and local traffic.
  • The riverside band consists of the promenade along the water‘s edge and the riverside loggias, each with different islands of use.
