Lustnau's connections to the Ammer and Neckar rivers were severely disrupted in the past by the relocation of the two watercourses and by industrial use. The reorganisation of the former industrial area offers the opportunity to reconnect the district more strongly with the surrounding landscape.

The concept envisages connecting the new urban quarters along the former course of the Neckar by means of a generous public space. The elongated corridor is composed of a parking area to the southwest of the river Ammer and the fortified town square.

Three quarters are being created along this corridor. In each building area, undeveloped plots act as 'windows' connecting inner block areas with the public space. The quarters differ from each other by their location and the structure of their public spaces. Selected urban planning rules will give each quarter its own character.
