Duisburg‘s urban fabric is made up of different landscape, industrial and settlement areas. Within the framework of the IGA, the connection between these spaces is to be improved. To this end, networking of the existing open spaces is planned. In addition, existing conversion areas are to be integrated into the open space structure.

The design takes up the existing open space framework and links the subspaces through a new generous park ring. The interplay of anthropogenic and ruderal elements is to be respected. The ring serves to improve the quality of open space in Hochfeld. To this end, new green connections are being created between the city centre, the Rhine Park and the Rhine. A sequence of park sections is proposed, each with different qualities and moods:

  • ring promenade along the Green Ring, linking all sections together.
  • rhine promenade, which integrates the Rhine Park and connects to the southern areas
  • crossings that connect the two park areas as green axes
