The green ring around Offenburg‘s city centre was created in the 19th century on the site of the historic fortifications. In some places the green belt is no longer recognisable today as a continuous open space.

Accordingly, the concept provides for a spatial framework that binds the park sections more closely together again. In addition, the sections are linked to the city centre by uniformly designed entrance areas.

It is proposed to integrate the access roads more strongly into the area. To this end, a uniform surface for lanes and recreational areas and a reduction in lane widths are proposed.

In the realisation section along the city wall, a sequence of grass slabs of different sizes will be created. The position and arrangement of the individual fields react to the existing spatial features and the stock of trees and shrubs. The widenings emphasise areas of particular historical significance, including the bastions, the watchtowers and the town gates.
