RECOGNITION

Baunatal's urban structure has emerged by stages since the 1960s. The urban layout is missing a number of characteristics of a central urban location:

  • location: the center of Baunatal is outlying from everyday road connections
  • orientation: many places lack a clear distinction between public and private areas
  • historicity: historical traces allowing a relationship with the history of the place are missing

Taking these constraints into account, lingering and remembrance are proposed as superordinate leitmotifs, to which the design elements are subordinated.

The city center is composed as a sequence of different spaces. In order to make the spatial sequence more tangible, all surface areas are combined by a cohesive paving.In some places, street furniture invites to watch the urban hustle and bustle in the pedestrian zone and on the market square.

The entrée and main squares of the city each receive their own 'Platzbild'. Possible themes for these pictures are: context and location of Baunatal, landscape and agriculture, crafts and industry, stories and persons …
