MUNICH ZSCHOKKESTRASSE WESTENDSTRASSE QUARTER

URBAN DESIGN
PUBLIC SPACES

OPEN TWO-PHASE
REALIZATION COMPETITION

2. PHASE

According to the urban design framework for the new quarter Zschokkestraße/Westendstraße, the development is assigned to four wings. Along the quarter’s edges, they frame a generous neighbourhood park, which links the adjoining urban and green spaces to one another. The connections to the neighbourhood park are made via respective squares, which serve as stepping stones and guidance elements.

The new neighbourhood park is directly accessible from all building plots. It opens up in a star pattern to the surrounding urban and green spaces and takes up important spatial reference lines as a visual and path connections.

The two most important entrances to the district are particularly accentuated by a structural dominant: at the crossing of Zschokkestraße/Westendstraße, a suitable high-altitude dominant is proposed opposite the high-rise "Seniorenwohnungen Westpark". The entrance to the neighbourhood park on Hans-Thonauer-Straße is emphasized by another high rise.

The proposed elements serve to establish a superordinate spatial connection within a heterogeneous urban structure. At the same time, the inside of the quarter remain largely car-free.

A compact and space-saving access is scheduled. All construction sites are connected via existing roads. Yet the inside of the neighborhood are kept free of car traffic tot he greatest possible extent. Cross traffic through the quarter is not possible. Beyond that, all traffic relations remain.
